It's the second Tuesday in January, so it is Oracle Critical Patch Update (CPU) time. The January 2014 CPU contains 144 fixes across Oracle's Database, Fusion Middleware, E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, Siebel, Oracle and Sun Systems Product Suite, MySQL, Oracle Linux and Virtualization, Oracle Java and some other less common product lines.

Seventy-nine of the fixes in this Critical Patch Update are for vulnerabilities that are remotely exploitable without authentication. In other words, anybody on the network can exploit these vulnerabilities. Seven products have fixes for vulnerabilities that allow for a complete takeover of the host: Oracle Fusion, Hyperion, Supply Chain, FLEXCUBE Private Banking, Java, Solaris and MySQL.
This update also includes five Oracle Database fixes. One of the issues fixed is remotely exploitable without authentication. Fixes are available for all supported versions of Oracle Database, 11gR1, 11gR2 and 12c.
For MySQL customers, there are 18 MySQL fixes, three of them remotely exploitable without authentication and one (CVE-2013-4316) that allows for the complete compromise of the host server by any unauthenticated network user in the MySQL Enterprise Monitor component.
Oracle Database Server Vulnerabilities:
- CVE-2013-5764: This vulnerability is in the Core RDBMS component. It allows an authenticated database user with minimal privileges to crash the database (Denial of Service). Patches are available for 11.1.0.7, 11.2.0.3 and 12.1.0.1. The CVSS Base Score is 3.5.
- CVE-2013-5853: This vulnerability is in the Core RDBMS component. It allows any user on the network to create a Denial of Service condition of the Core RDBMS by sending a sequence of specially crafted network packets. This attack is using up RDBMS resources resulting in the server temporarily refusing new connections. Patches are available for 11.1.0.7, 11.2.0.3 and 12.1.0.1. The CVSS Base Score is 5.0.
- CVE-2013-5858: This vulnerability is in the Core RDBMS component. It allows an authenticated database user with CREATE VIEW privileges to perform unauthorized update, insert or delete operations on sensitive data. Patches are available for 11.1.0.7, 11.2.0.3, 11.2.0.4 and 12.1.0.1. The CVSS Base Score is 4.0.
- CVE-2014-0377: This vulnerability is in the Core RDBMS component. It allows an authenticated database user with CREATE ROLE, CREATE USER, SELECT on SYS tables privileges to perform unauthorized read operations on sensitive data. Patches are available for 11.1.0.7, 11.2.0.3, 11.2.0.4 and 12.1.0.1. The CVSS Base Score is 4.0
- CVE-2014-0378: This vulnerability is in the Core RDBMS component. It allows an authenticated database user with LOCAL LOGIN privileges and a valid logon account to the operating system to perform unauthorized updates, insert or delete operations on some Spatial accessible data and a partial DOS of Spatial. Patches are available for 11.1.0.7, 11.2.0.3, 11.2.0.4 and 12.1.0.1. The CVSS Base Score is 4.1.
