Microsoft Patch Tuesday, November 2015
November's Patch Tuesday marks a return to business as usual. Where October was a rather light month for bulletins, November brings back to the same patch levels we saw in September and August. This month there are a total of twelve bulletins, with four rated Critical and eight rated Important, representing a total of 53 individual CVEs. As usual, perennial vulnerability contributor Internet Explorer represents 25 of those vulnerabilities.
Also in the Critical list the new Edge browser showed up to the patch party with four vulnerabilities, the most severe of which can lead to remote code execution. The last two Critical bulletins are ones that we see pop up every couple of months. One is in Windows Journal where a maliciously crafted Journal file could result in arbitrary code execution in the context of the user that opens the file. The last one is in OpenType fonts that would allow an attacker to trigger arbitrary code execution by embedding malicious OpenType fonts in a document or web page and then convincing a user to open the document.
