CHICAGO (April 26, 2011) - Trustwave, a leading provider of information security and compliance solutions, today announced that Nicholas J. Percoco, senior vice president and head of Trustwave's SpiderLabs, will participate in a real-time simulated data breach of an online payments system at the upcoming Visa Global Security Summit on Wednesday, April 27, 2011.
Percoco will participate in the simulation as a forensic investigator alongside Bob Russo from the PCI Security Standards Council, Tim Muris, Former Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission, and former Massachusetts Attorney General, Tom Reilly. This simulation will be lead by General Michael V. Hayden, principal of the Chertoff Group and former director of the CIA and National Security Agency. Offering a 360-degree view of a mock attack on payment card data systems, the exercise will display the unique and supporting roles of the private and public sectors, as well as law enforcement.
"This event demonstrates a growing awareness among major corporations of the threat posed by online crime, which costs our economy millions of dollars every day," said Percoco. "The simulation will drive home the critical risks involved with a data breach, as well as showcase the preventive solutions we need to adopt."
"Mr. Percoco's expertise on digital asset protection will be a critical addition to the data breach simulation and the events that unfold," said Joe Majka, head of Cyber Security and Fraud Investigations, Visa Inc. "The audience will glean valuable information about the vulnerabilities that can lead to a data breach, and what should be done to prevent future incidents."
Percoco is one of the leading information security professionals in the United States, regularly cited in media coverage of information security issues. SpiderLabs, the ethical hacking and investigations group within Trustwave, which Percoco heads, is the market leader in penetration and application security tests, having conducted thousands in the last 6 years for clients around the world. Percoco and other SpiderLabs personnel frequently present papers at major industry conferences, including DEF CON, Black Hat and OWASP.
The Visa Global Security Summit will address how all participants in the payments system can collaboratively work against security threats. Other top speakers include Michael Chertoff, Chairman of the Chertoff Group and former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and Ellen Richey, Chief Enterprise Risk Officer, Visa Inc.
The data breach simulation, taking place from 3:15 p.m. EDT to 5:30 p.m. EDT, can be viewed by live webcast at www.visasecuritysummit.com.
