CHICAGO (April 15, 2009) - Trustwave, the leading provider of on-demand data security and payment card industry compliance management solutions to businesses and organizations throughout the world, will unveil its Managed Network Access Control solution at the RSA Conference, booth #316, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
Network Access Control (NAC) technology helps prevent unknown or unauthorized devices from entering a network, which is one of the leading causes of the introduction of viruses and other malware onto corporate networks. Trustwave's solution enables access control to a network through the use of pre-admission policies, as well as post-admission controls which govern the access that users and devices are permitted on a network once access is granted.
By gathering information about an end-point (e.g., device type, known or unknown, past policy compliance and threat history, etc), Trustwave's NAC solution evaluates whether to admit the end-point to the network based on its compliance and risk factors. Trustwave's NAC helps detect and isolate unauthorized devices and policy violations, including zero-day attacks, without disrupting other segments of the network. It requires no agent software, deploys virtually inline and works in any network environment.
Unlike perimeter-based security solutions such as firewalls and intrusion prevention systems, NAC is designed to help protect the inside of the network from threats that originate within the network, such as infected laptops or other compromised systems connected to the network. Unlike anti-virus solutions, Trustwave's NAC detects unauthorized behavior without the need to constantly update signatures. This allows the solution to help detect and stop threat variants that typically evade anti-virus solutions.
Trustwave's NAC technology is part of Trustwave's managed security services, which include UTM, IDS/IPS, secure e-mail, network security monitoring, vulnerability scanning, log monitoring and more. Trustwave's security experts manage the device from a state-of-the-art Security Operations Center (SOC), with 24x7 multi-lingual support services.
Additionally, with its ability to control access to network resources and validate end-point compliance, Trustwave's NAC can be used to help enforce industry and regulatory compliance with standards such as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). PCI DSS is the payment card industry security requirement for entities that process, transmit and/or store cardholder data, which has been endorsed by all the major card brands - Visa Inc., MasterCard Worldwide, Discover Network, American Express and JCB. Trustwave's patented NAC solution helps satisfy six of the 12 requirements of the PCI DSS providing:
- Endpoint security patch status checks
- Monitoring health and status of anti-virus programs
- Restricting endpoint access based on business need-to-know
- Tracking and analyzing endpoint behavior
- Reporting on network behavior and trends
- Restricting service ports on endpoints
- Supporting definition and documentation of policies
"In today's environment, users are connecting directly to the network rather than connecting to the perimeter," says Robert J. McCullen, chairman and CEO of Trustwave. "Trustwave's NAC helps an organization control who gains admission to their network, then detects and isolates rogue, infected or out-of-policy end-points, such as laptops, before they harm the resources on their network."
