CHICAGO (April 16, 2010) - Trustwave, a leading provider of information security and compliance solutions, announces that a member of its SpiderLabs security team will participate in the 2010 National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC), April 16-18, 2010 in San Antonio, Texas. SpiderLabs is Trustwave's advanced security team responsible for incident response and forensics, penetration testing and application security and security research.
The National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) is a 3-day event established in 2004 and is the largest college-level cyber security competition in the world. Focusing on the operational aspect of managing and protecting an existing network infrastructure, student teams must assume administrative and protective duties for an existing "commercial" network. Security professionals then attempt to exploit these systems while student teams work to balance security needs against business needs.
Trustwave security professional Ryan Jones will again be back on the "Red Team," which consists of individuals highly skilled in ethical cyber attack techniques such as penetration testing. This is the fifth year Jones has been asked to participate. He and his team will attempt to penetrate these commercial networks to create as much havoc as possible for the student teams.
"This event provides students with real-world experience and helps them better understand what they'll encounter in their careers," says Robert J. McCullen, chairman and CEO of Trustwave. "Their sophistication and advanced knowledge of information security will help protect the network environment of some very lucky companies."
