Trustwave MyIdentity Cloud-based, 2-Factor Authentication Solution Provides 5 Flexible Authentication Options
CHICAGO (December 6, 2011) - Trustwave, a leading provider of information security and compliance solutions, announces MyIdentity, an innovative and flexible two-factor authentication solution that provides five authentication options to help users securely connect to various network systems and applications.
Authentication is vital for organizations to secure any resource available on a public network to help deter intrusions and keep their proprietary information safe. Two-factor authentication includes an additional layer of security that uses two components to verify a user's identity when accessing a network from a remote location. This historically consisted of a factor the user knows (e.g., user name and password) and a factor the user has or possesses (e.g., token).
Trustwave MyIdentity is an innovative cloud-based two-factor authentication solution that combines self-service enrollment with one of the broadest arrays of authentication methods on the market. Trustwave can support network or application authentication from the corporate desktop, employee laptops, remote locations and mobile smartphone devices.
"MyIdentity is a more secure and cost effective solution as compared to the hardware tokens we considered using," said Gautam Lulla, chief operating officer at traveltripper.com, an innovative reservation and e-commerce solution provider that helps hotels increase online booking conversions and market share. "With its flexible authentication options, the end user chooses his second factor of authentication at the point of authentication, which requires no additional administration from our IT group, minimizing reliance on people and hardware."
The Simplicity of MyIdentity
To use MyIdentity, a user must log into their network with their existing user name and password. Then a MyIdentity screen provides users with five different authentication options. Users determine which option to deploy and select one of the following authentication mechanisms:
- Digital certificates - Trustwave-issued user authentication certificates
- SMS-based authenticator codes - Text message that provides a one-time passcode
- Voice call-back - Call to a landline or cell phone for push button authentication
- MyIdentity push w/ confirmation screen - Pushes login alert to mobile phone to accept or deny request
- MyIdentity Mobile - User-downloaded smartphone application that generates one-time passcode when accessed
Once the authentication mechanism is selected, users' identities are verified and access to the network is granted. The variety of authenticators provided means users are not tied to one or the same authentication method and can make choices at the point of authentication, all without cumbersome administration.
Because Trustwave's offer does not incorporate physical tokens, which generate a one-time unique pass number that a user must enter along with a PIN to access a network remotely, it is able to deliver its solution at a fraction of the cost of current alternatives. The high cost of provisioning, replacement and revocation, combined with the corporate resources required to manage that effort, can make physical tokens a difficult solution for companies to implement, manage and afford.
"In addition to meeting compliance mandates and providing a more secure user experience, two-factor authentication is also essential to combat the evolving threat landscape and prevent unforeseen attacks," said Brian Trzupek, vice president of managed identity and SSL at Trustwave. "MyIdentity helps organizations mitigate risk, simplify manageability, and lower costs as compared to token-based solutions."
