Offering Prepares Organizations to Respond Effectively to Future Threats

CHICAGO (November 11, 2009) -  Trustwave, the leading provider of on-demand data security and payment card industry compliance management solutions to businesses and organizations throughout the world, introduces Incident Readiness Service to prepare and help protect organizations from security incidents and help test incident response plans. The service will be delivered by Trustwave's SpiderLabs - the advanced security team at Trustwave responsible for incident response and forensics, penetration testing and application security.

The Incident Readiness Service combines SpiderLabs data knowledge and field experience in detecting and preventing security incidents and properly handling the aftermath of an attack. With this service, clients will receive training, documentation review and development, simulated attack exercises, and on-demand and on-call services in the event of an actual incident.

Based on an initial intelligence briefing with an organization, Trustwave will first develop a computer security incident response plan, which outlines critical process flow and associated documentation. The next phase in incident preparedness is the forming of the Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT), who is responsible for the initial triage, establishing target goals, staffing, communications and goal accomplishments. Finally, Trustwave will develop and deliver on-site training to prepare a customer's CIRT to be the first on the scene while preserving the confidentiality and integrity of the systems in question.

To ensure the security effectiveness of the plan, Trustwave industry experts will perform a controlled attack simulation against an organization's environment to test the security posture of the defenses in place. After the simulated attack, a report detailing any identified or potential gaps in the response, as well as vulnerabilities, is presented to the customer, along with recommendations for process modifications and countermeasures to mitigate risk.

"This is a customized plan that is offered in three levels of service to ensure we're providing the best possible solution," says Robert J. McCullen, chairman and CEO of Trustwave. "This plan and its associated simulated exercise will help any organization ready themselves to take proper action should an attack occur."

"We've responded to hundreds of data breaches and found that most organizations are ill-prepared to handle such an unfortunate circumstance," says Nicholas J. Percoco, senior vice president of SpiderLabs. "Our attack simulation is not a paper-based or tabletop exercise; it is a controlled attack performed by industry-recognized experts that will help prepare an organization should they face an incident in the future."
