CHICAGO (February 11, 2010) - Trustwave, a leading Certification Authority and global issuer of SSL certificates and online identities, has been awarded the WebTrust Seal of Assurance for Certification Authorities (CA) - Extended Validation Audit Criteria for 2010. This is Trustwave's sixth consecutive year receiving this certification.
The WebTrust Seal is a unique seal of assurance, developed jointly by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), to set an industry standard for CAs issuing digital certificates. Trustwave offers digital certificates for many uses including web site identity, encryption, secure e-mail and code signing. Trustwave uses its WebTrust certification to issue high assurance SSL certificates, such as Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificates, which ensures the highest operating criteria for its CA business.
WebTrust compliance for Certification Authorities is validated by a third party audit to ensure that the business consistently adheres to certain business standards. Such examples include controls surrounding the issuance of certificates and the customer authentication process, customer data privacy and security, and overall business continuity management.
"Displaying the WebTrust Seal provides evidence of Trustwave's compliance to WebTrust Principles and Criteria," says Robert J. McCullen, chairman and CEO of Trustwave. "It symbolizes security, trust and confidence in our data security and business practices to ensure consumers' information is always protected when conducting business with Trustwave over the Internet."
