CHICAGO (October 20, 2010) -  Security experts from Trustwave, a leading provider of information security and compliance solutions, will present at SecTor 2010 in Toronto, October 26 and 27. The presentations will be delivered by members of SpiderLabs, the advanced security team at Trustwave responsible for application security, incident response, penetration testing, physical security and security research. The presentations include:

  • Malware Freakshow 2 will be presented by Nicholas Percoco and Jibran Ilyas, which will expand upon their initial Malware Freakshow presentation. This talk will explore four new pieces of malware that were obtained during hundreds of compromise investigations conducted by Trustwave's SpiderLabs over the last year. The presentation will include the anatomy of a successful malware attack, a profile on each sample and victim, and a live demonstration of each piece of malware.
  • Building the DEFCON Network, Making a Sandbox for 10,000 Hackers  will be delivered by David Bryan and will explore ways to build a secure network infrastructure using enterprise-class hardware while on a tight budget. The presentation will consider the evolution of networks, which technology has exhibited proven capabilities over the last ten years, and those ideas that have fallen apart. In addition, he'll review the implementation of security controls and how to properly define segmentation, which are critical components often overlooked when building a network infrastructure to avoid attacks and traffic interception.
  • Sniper Forensics v2.0 - Target Acquisition will be presented by Chris Pogue and will teach attendees how to integrate Sniper Forensics, the use of live analysis tools and techniques to target only the systems that are part of a breach, into their investigations, putting ideology and methodology into action. Covering frequently asked questions posed by audience members from his original Sniper Forensics presentation, the talk will provide greater detail regarding identifying the right targets to investigate, determining what data needs to be extracted and how to incorporate those findings into the final work product.

"These presentations will help attendees identify and understand inherent security vulnerabilities, whether building new infrastructures or reviewing existing systems," said Robert J. McCullen, chairman and CEO of Trustwave. "We're excited about the opportunity to share our expertise at Canada's premier IT security conference and provide attendees with real-world advice that can be implemented immediately."

"Following proper policies and procedures when building a network infrastructure is often overlooked by corporations that are opting for faster uptime," said Nicholas J. Percoco, senior vice president and head of Trustwave's SpiderLabs. "It's critical for organizations to consider proper segmentation and security controls prior to development to ensure they're protecting their internal assets from exploitation."
